Why You Should Keep Carpets In Your Home
At GC, we will never recommend to you a product that is not
suitable for your needs, so we may recommend you have vinyl
instead of carpets in certain areas, for example the kitchen
and / or bathrooms / wetrooms. However, carpet really makes
the majority of rooms, so, with care, that room will stay
looking stunning for years!
TRUE STORY
When I moved into my house about 4 years ago, there was laminate
flooring everywhere! And I do mean everywhere. After just
a few months here, I was desperate to get rid of it, because:
1) it was so noisy - we heard every time the dogs wandered
around at night. The constant click, click, clicking nearly
drove us mad!
2) it was not at all safe to walk on. Not only did the dogs
slide about everywhere, but so did we
3) it was so cold. It adsorbed no heat, and gave no warmth
at all
4) it was so hard (my little'un slipped over a couple of
time (like they do) and she hurt herself quite badly.) She
also got friction burns too.
5) it still stains - we had cherryade stain on it after a
party that could not be removed (with carpets and good layer
of protector and the correct action would have meant it would
all be removed)
6) WE WERE HAVING TO SWEEP UP DOG HAIR TWICE A DAY - carpet
has been designed to hide dirt, so a thorough vacuum 3 times
a week is ample! All you have to remember is that you will
need to get your carpets
cleaned regularly to keep them at peak condition, and
ensure they last their full life.
7) There was not a wide choice of colours available, but
with carpets there is a huge choice of colours, fibres, price
range etc
8) There are several underfloor irrigularites that have been
successfully covered up with carpet, but they were blatant
with laminate.
9) It was getting chipped, and peeling away at the corner,
despite the fact it was supposed to have a 15 year guarantee!
So, as I have personally experienced, carpets really do
have many advantages over other types of flooring:
IMPORTANT - Many people think that carpets are a source
of dust mites and unhealthy pollutants, and feel they have
to be ripped up to have a healthy home.
For the last few years, the number of children suffering
in the UK from ASTHMA and other allergies has grown (currently
40% of our 13/14-year-olds have Asthma - the highest rate
in the world). The health officials have been pointing the
blame at traffic pollution and only recently found it is the
dust mite. As mites live mainly in your carpets it's
now the carpet that gets the blame.
